Sankt Peter is a small village in the southwest of Germany. It is the early 1950s. Gregor and Maria are the local Bacher Farmer’s grown-up children. Since Gregor is the farmer’s eldest son, tradition demands of him that he should take over the barn. However, Gregor has a completely different plan that leads to constant arguments with his father. He wants to open a gas station by the federal road, which will soon be built near the village. In order to fulfil his dream, Gregor needs his father’s financial support. Although Maria tries to mediate between the two, the father-son conflict cannot be resolved for a long time. Eventually, the father gives in. He is willing to help his son with financial means. But the condition attached to his support makes Gregor and Maria face the toughest decision of their lives ...
